Yuryk FAMILY
Pavlo and Anastasiya
About them
My name is Pavlo Yuryk. I am 34 years old and married to a beautiful girl Anastasia. We live together in the city of Cherkasy. She works as a teacher at a music school, and I am engaged in the development of ministry to unbelieving teenagers and students in the Cherkasy region. When I was 18, I realized that I wanted to devote my life to ministry. I liked it the most, it made the most sense to me. Until now, I have stuck to my chosen vector. At first, I was part of a team that ran a youth club, preached in church, led a small group, and coached children in one of the schools, then I became a teen ministry leader and I was in this role for 6 years. Together with the team, every week we held clubs and small groups for unbelieving teenagers, and went with them to evangelistic camps. We also held lessons in schools, telling teenagers the truth about drugs, sex, and alcohol. In the summer, we organized many social projects for our city – camps, street festivals, and sporting events. Looking at my path, I see three components that have always been in the ministry: creating and fostering a team, developing leadership, and serving non-believers.
Ministry overview
Now I am the area director in Cherkasy region in Young Life ministry. We now have 3 teams that work with students aged 18-24 and 1 team that works with teenagers aged 14-18. We are also in the process of creating 4 more teams of teen clubs. Our vision is that by the end of the season there will be 10 teams in the region, 4 of which will work with students, 5 with teenagers and 1 with younger teenagers aged 11-13. Each week, each team hosts clubs, small groups, and informal gatherings for teens and students to have fun, build relationships, and introduce them to the person of Jesus Christ. We measure our effectiveness in two ways: the number of leaders who have been trained and are engaged in outreach; and the number of new teams. If we grow in these two indicators, we will definitely see unbelieving teenagers and students begin to follow Jesus and grow in faith. And these fruits are already there – young leaders who came to the club for the first time two or three years ago are now leading others to Christ.
To develop leadership and build community, we regularly organize various events for the teams. These are meetings of team captains, leadership retreats, trips to regional conferences and national conferences for leaders. Also, every fall, we conduct training for all teams, which consists of 12 topics on why we do this, what we do, and how we do it. In this way, every leader has every opportunity for both service and quality training.
